Proposed Amendments

Many of the states proposed amendments to the Constitution at the same time they ratified it. How many amendments were suggested by the states – 10, 56, or 189?

Answer: 189 (Of course, a number of those amendments were duplicate proposals from different states. Others were trivial or were merely of local importance.)
