Can you Kill the Bill

December 27, 2009 by Bdoga

filibusterSuppose a small number of Senators are absolutely opposed to a bill. Can they filibuster it to death by getting control of the floor and bringing the business of the Senate to a virtual standstill?Answer: Yes (Because the Senate is smaller than the House of Representatives, it has always prided itself in allowing almost unlimited debate. Occasionally a small group of Senators will be so completely opposed to a bill the majority want to pass that they will put on a filibuster to tie up all Senate business until the majority relinquishes consideration of the objectionable legislation.)
