What office was John Adams referring to when he said, “In this I am nothing, but I may be everything”?Answer: His assignment as Vice President. (Because the Vice President has so few specified assignments, this office seemed of little consequence to Adams, even through he stood next in line to be President of the United States if anything had happened to President George Washington.)
