Maintaining a Free Government
October 17, 2009 by Bdoga
Did the Founders say that morality and virtue must prevail in a society if the people hoped to maintain a free government?Answer: Yes. (Benjamin Franklin said, “Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters.” And John Adams echoed his words by saying, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”
